Climate Care is excited to join the team of Tribewanted.com as its Climate Advisor
Tribewanted.com has been set up by two UK social entrepreneurs and is looking for 5000 people to join a tribe that will develop a sustainable eco-community on an island in Fiji. The members of the Tribe will shape and actively develop an adventure island community that will be made up of people of different ages, races, and languages. There will be teachers, architects, surfers, doctors, students and dreamers.
When the 5000th member joins, the tribe will be formed and will start to make important decisions by voting through the tribewanted.com community on key issues including: What will the tribe be called? What kind of infrastructure will be required on the Island? What are the most environmentally friendly ways of building an island community?
The plan is to create the world's first online and real life tribal community, providing an experience of a lifetime to its members whilst simultaneously helping local development projects in Fiji and without negatively impacting the environment.
As its Climate Advisor, Climate Care will be keeping carbon accounts for the tribe's island life and offsetting them to make Adventure Island climate neutral. The biggest impact by far, however, will come from the air travel of Tribe members, and we hope that Tribewanted.com will spread a key message - if you fly, offset. Tribe members will also see the exciting potential of living lightly on the earth, and understand (and hopefully use) some of the sustainable technologies that our projects promote.
This project shows that while moving to a low-carbon future needn't mean the end of fun, it will involve some gutsy choices and a spirit of collective action to keep the planet beautiful - and inhabitable. It is just these challenges that the Tribe will have to face as Adventure Island evolves.
Ben Keene, co-founder of tribewanted said,
"Tribewanted offers people the chance to be part of a real life adventure where they can influence the development of the tribal community online before visiting the island itself. We have teamed up with Climate Care and are committed to offsetting all carbon emissions generated by the island community and we will be seriously encouraging all tribe members to offset their flight emissions to and from Fiji. We want to be the first ever climate neutral tribe!"
