Background
It is currently not possible to offer carbon offsetting projects which are based in the UK as any emissions reductions from such projects will be ‘double-counted’ as will already have been included in the UK’s greenhouse gas inventory to meet its targets under the Kyoto Protocol.
Offset Plus with community climate change action in the UK
However, it is possible to take action and make a meaningful contribution to efforts to tackle climate change here in the UK, in combination with an offsetting programme. ClimateCare is delighted to present an “Offset Plus” option to all of its clients, in partnership with the Eden project’s Climate Revolution programme and the Eden Climate Fund. The Eden Climate Fund invests both in ClimateCare's projects in developing countries which reduce carbon in the atmosphere as well as the Eden Project's growing programme of educational climate change work. Under this scheme a small additional premium is added to the price per tonne of offset which goes to help fund climate change education, in communities and schools in the UK - tackling climate change at the grassroots level, increasing understanding and fostering sustainable behavioural change.
