Many companies offer their customers the opportunity to offset the emissions associated with the delivery of their products.
There are two main options:
- Charge a nominal amount per offset: this is unlikely to be directly related to the emissions, but is a simpler process and message. You add an appropriate amount to offset per delivery. We can help you develop a banding system to suit your company.
- Charge an offset price based on the distance and weight of goods delivered: This is a more complicated calculation, however we have developed a calculator tool and offer guidance to help you work this out.
Delivery case studies
Ethicalsuperstore.com is one of the only UK ethical retailing sites which can offer a complete ‘carbon offset’ delivery programme that allows buyers the option of offsetting the emissions produced by the item being delivered, thus reducing the ‘carbon footprint’ of the purchase. To date over 50% of Ethicalsuperstore customers have chosen to offset their deliveries.
Electricshopping.com, leading home and lifestyle online store, became the first electrical retailer in the UK to give their customers the opportunity to offset the CO2 produced in the delivery of their purchase as well as making a positive contribution to the emissions produced by the use of their product. At the checkout, each customer can opt to purchase an offset of between £2 - £5.
