Background
Nobrecel SA produces paper from eucalyptus wood which is produced from planted forests. Carbon emissions have been reduced through the installation of a new biomass boiler and turbine which replaced the original oil fired boilers and also reduces the plants electricity consumption from the grid.
The project
 |
The installation of the biomass boiler has allowed Nobrecel to produce steam from wood biomass residues which are a by-product of the paper production process. These residues are then burned in the boiler to produce high pressure steam which is then used to create electricity.
This project was one of the first projects in South America to be developed using carbon finance and has become the benchmark for similar projects in the region.
