The UN Kyoto Protocol has placed legally binding emission reduction targets on countries around the world and a ‘compliance carbon market’ has emerged to help countries meet these targets.

ClimateCare supplies emission reductions to both the voluntary market and compliance market.

The voluntary market has developed rapidly over the last year, and we are now seeing high quality standards emerging. We have been at the forefront of campaigning for those standards and we will continue to push hard for quality assurance in the carbon markets, ensuring that both those buying offsets and those wishing to drive innovation in low carbon technologies will be protected and supported.

All ClimateCare projects are being developed to an internationally recognised industry standard of the following types:

  • UN backed.
  • Rigorous but bureaucratic procedures.
  • Predominantly large scale projects e.g. Renewables, industrial & domestic energy efficiency, industrial gases, methane capture, afforest. & reforest.

Gold Standard CDM (GS CERs)
As above

  • Backed by 40+ NGOs & charities.
  • As CDM but strong sustainable development focus & community consultation element .
  • Renewables and energy efficiency.

Gold Standard Voluntary (GS VERs)
Countries without a Kyoto target

  • Backed by 40+ NGOs & charities and established as high quality for voluntary market.
  • Based on CDM but without need to take through CDM Board.
  • Strong sustainable development & community consultation element.
  • Where possible we use the GS VER, though projects to this standard take time to develop.

Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS)
Any location

  • The Climate Group & IETA backed.
  • Attempting to be a rigorous but appropriate market voluntary market standard.
  • Renewables, industrial & domestic energy efficiency, industrial gases, waste gas capture.

VER+
Any location

  • Developed by TÜV SÜD (a UN approved DOE).
  • Based on CDM but without need to take through CDM or Executive board.
  • Technologies as CDM.
